JP Domain Name

This site uses dan.tokyo.jp, a JP domain. I chose it because JP registration requires a real Japanese address, which fit the project and audience.

JP domains are managed by JPRS (Japan Registry Service, established 2000-12-26). I also learned that adding a regional label (like .tokyo.jp) gives a more specific identity.

Domain dan.tokyo.jp
Registry JPRS / JPDirect flow
Cost (initial) ¥3,650 domain + ¥10,900 certificate

Registration Flow

  1. Check availability at jprs.jp/registration.
  2. Follow registration docs: jprs.jp/registration/flow (Japanese).
  3. Choose a designated operator; I used JPDirect.
  4. Register for one year and request certificate issuance.
  5. Generate key + CSR, submit CSR, and wait for certificate issuance.

CSR and Key

openssl genrsa -out servername.key 2048
openssl req -new -key servername.key -out server.csr -sha256
openssl req -noout -text -in server.csr

I used the paid certificate flow at the time. For renewal, I may switch to Let's Encrypt.

After Registration

Once the certificate arrived, the domain setup was complete and I moved hosting to AWS. I’ll cover the AWS side in a separate post.
